Love them or loathe them, coloured mascaras are a thing and a trend that is definitely sticking around this Summer. Whether you just opt for a subtle coating on your bottom lashes, wear it alone, layer over your normal mascara or simply highlight the tips of your lashes, coloured mascara is a fun, frivolous addition to your regular makeup routine and definitely worth a try.

Perfectly timed for the festival season, Yves Saint Laurent Beaute has released nine fiery new mascara shades, including two mesmerisingly sparkly top coats, to shake up the eye makeup conventions. The new formula of the Vinyl Couture dresses your lashes with a unique shiny, lacquer-like texture. The brush provides a curvaceous, lengthening effect with sleek volume, and whether you want something vivid or a little less obvious, there will definitely be a shade to suit your inner wild child this Summer. YSL mascaras have always been some of my favourite and these latest releases continue to give some seriously impressive volume, curl and intensity. The vinyl formula means the finish isn't chalky or flat on your lashes but smooth and shiny. They are lovely to apply and give you a shock of colour in a blink of an eye.

The nine adventurous shades invite you to match them or clash them! You can have lots of fun with the different shades but if you aren't too keen on the idea of hot pink lashes then there are some nice darker variations such as a wicked aubergine shade and a deep, dark hazel. Or if you fancied just adding a touch of sparkle to your existing black mascara then the gold and silver shimmering top coats will do the job perfectly!

The YSL Beaute Mascara Vinyl Coutures (£25) are out now online and on counters nationwide.

Bourjois is all ready to embrace the Summer this year with their hot, new seasonal collection featuring a tropical vibe to get you festival-ready. This new collection is a vibrant collision of colours to channel that cool summer beat. Think electric turquoise blue, deep matte denim blue and exotic hot fuchsia twisted with a vibrant golden khaki. It is the perfect mix of shades and finishes to get you in the festival spirit and ready to dance all night long.

This new collection features three new Contour Clubbing Waterproof Eye Pencils is a trio of sizzling shades - a gorgeous navy blue, a unique powerful, electric blue and the colour of the season, khaki green. There is also a new Color Boost Lip Crayon in Lolli Poppy, a fantastic satsuma orange hue and two new 1 Seconde Nail Polishes in an iridescent golden khaki and a bright fuchsia pink.

Most excitingly however are the two new, limited edition repackaged products which have both had a tropical festival makeover. The fun, funky design of saturated shades and patterns is just gorgeous and will be the perfect addition to your makeup bag this Summer. There is the iconic cult favourite, Delice De Poudre Bronzing Powder, which instantly enhances your tan and gives you that sun kissed glow. And then there is the Volume Clubbing Mascara, one of my favourite mascaras, which will luxe up your lashes and last all night long. It gives extreme volume and is 100% tear and sweat proof, tried, tested and loved by clubbers!

Let's face it, a slick and a flick of coloured eye liner (see my latest favourites here and here) just wouldn't be complete without lashings of mascara. Whereas your average black option would be a safe call, why not mix your eye-look up and combine that purple liner with a coating of brown mascara or wow your friends with dazzling colbalt blue lashes to frame a emerald green flick? I love the whole coloured liner and mascara trend going on at the moment and Benefit Cosmetics have just given us reason to reinvent that 70s feel which two new additions to their best-selling mascara.

The ever-popular They're Real! mascara from Benefit (£19.50) has been given a colourful makeover and now there are two new shades to delight your eyes - They're Real! in 'Beyond Blue' and 'Beyond Brown'. If you were a fan of the original mascara from Benefit but fancy injecting a little colour into your makeup then these would be a fab choice. If you haven't tried this mascara before then you are in for a treat. I really liked the original version and found that it lived up to all its promises; it lengthened, curled, added volume, lifted and seperated my lashes without any smudging or drying out. And if you are a little fearful of going all-blue then you could subtly coat the ends of your lashes after you've applied your regular mascara or just opt for the bottom lashings for fun finish!

What do you think? Do you dare to go bright and blue?

Bourjois '70s Inspired Limited Edition 1 Seconde Mascara

Bourjois Limited Edition 'Flower Power' 70s inspired 1 Seconde Mascara (£9.99) | available from Boots/Superdrug

With the high street stores flooded with fringing, bell-bottoms, crotchet, suede fabrics and laid back, boho prints it is fair to say that the '70s trend has well and truly landed and this Summer I, for one, will definitely be stepping out in floaty designs and bold floral prints.

Bourjois have embraced this retro revival and have given their best-selling mascara, the 1 Seconde Mascara, a 70s makeover - a nod to the flower power days with a punchy lime sorbet and hot coral print. The mascara itself remains unchanged, and you can read all about my love for this beauty hero right here, but from 13th May until the end of August you pick up their popular mascara in this limited edition design. A must-have accessory for the festival and Summer season!

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

My relationship with Benefit mascaras has always been a bit hit and miss. Whilst everyone was piling on the volume with their original Bad Gal Lash I was finding it a bit too clumsy and chunky for my liking. But then they quickly redeemed themselves with the successful launch of They're Real! Mascara which really ticked all the boxes when it came to volume, length and fluttery lashes in an instant. With a rocky Benefit mascara experience so far I was more than keen to test out their very latest release - the Roller Lash Mascara to see where how it would fare and if it really could top the splendidness of They're Real! and give us a reason to splurge our pennies on another must-have mascara?

Labelled as a super-curling and lift mascara, Roller Lash mascara* (£19.50) from Benefit Cosmetics is a roller for your lashes! It has a patent "hook 'n' roll" brush which is slightly curved and grabs, separates, lifts and curls the lashes giving you a wide-eyed, eye-opening result. The formula contains Provitamin B5 and Serin which conditions the lashes as well as promising to hold your curl for up to 12 hours. So is it really time to say bye bye to those lash curlers? Well those magic little hooks on that innovative new brush really do work wonders at grabbing each lash and pulling them upwards as you apply the mascara and the fine, comb-like wand makes sure that lashes are also separated and fanned out. This mascara has been specifically created for those girls who may have quite short or straight lashes or smaller eyes, those girls that struggle with big, chunky brushes that don't really capture the individual lashes and leave you with a smudgy mess. And it really does the job. I always prefer the plastic-y wands and I love that this one is delicate and fine enough to also do your bottom lashes without it too awkward or clumpy. It is also perfect shaped to nestle into the roots of your lashes ready for you to wiggle and jiggle the mascara up and through your lashes as you apply. All in all, the Roller Lash gets a thumbs up from me - it gives you all the length and same volume you would expect from They're Real! with the added bonus of such a pretty curl to finish with.

I'm hooked!

Revlon Lash Potion Mascara by Grow Luscious

Spellbinding volume. Supernatural length. Revlon's Lash Potion Mascara was one of those products that whipped the blogging world into a frenzy last year as it graced the stores overseas in America and featured highly on everyone's Target and Ulta shopping list! Since then it has made its way over to the UK soil and is readily available from Boots and Superdrug for £9.99 and is available in blackest black, blackened brown and waterproof.

Revlon Lash Potion Grow Luscious Mascara* magically transforms lashes to lush, long and lustrous. The formula contains strengthening proteins that drenches each lash with volume and the triple-groove wand separates and fans out your lashes, giving them instant, clump-free length. The brush is quite chunky so you do have to be quite delicate to ensure you don't smudge mascara all over your eyelids but it effectively combs through your lashes and builds up a beautifully natural yet striking finish. You cannot deny it adds lots and lots of lovely length and volume and the formula doesn't flake or transfer during the day making it a great mascara to wear day into night. If you are after a new 'drugstore' mascara for less than a tenner then I would definitely recommend checking this one out. The packaging is pretty magical too!

As I start to reflect on this year's beauty launches and which products have really impressed me, I feel I need to mention one of my favourite new mascara launches of the year; Bourjois' Volume 1 Seconde mascara which I blogged about here back in April. Since then it has been one of those faithful eye products I always find myself reaching for when I want instant volume, length and separation with no clumping or dryness. This Christmas Bourjois has released an update version of this fantastic mascara in Ultra Black to give your lashes a blacker than black appearance for up to 16 hours, ideal for taking you from desk to dance floor! A mixture of Bourjois' ultra volumising and long-lasting formula along with its patented brush which features wraparound spherical bristles, this mascara promises to give you captivating and hypnotic eyelashes in a flash! The chunky wand really grabs each lash and coats them with a super-rich, highly pigmented inky black colour and can be built up for a super glamorous flutter! The brush is expertly designed to capture and define every eyelash and fan them out for a dramatic finish perfect for the party season. Bourjois' Volume 1 Seconde Ultra Black Mascara* is available from Boots for a purse-friendly price of just £9.99.

And to remove my makeup at the end of a long night dancing at the Christmas party? I've been using Bourjois' Express Eye Makeup Remover* which is ideal for waterproof mascara and removes stubborn makeup and glitter in a flash! It has a non-oily formulation and is quite similar to one of my favourite (and pricier) makeup removers, the Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover, in both colour and performance! This remover has a two-phase formula which needs to be shaken together before using. The first, darker blue layer, contains oils concentrated with cleansing agents to remove all makeup effortlessly, even that waterproof mascara. The second, lighter blue layer, is the water phase to leave the skin fresh and clear and free of any greasiness. The formula has been tested to protect the lashes, the delicate skin of the eyelids and the fragile area around the eyes and does a great job at removing your makeup thoroughly without irritating the skin. I always forget that Bourjois offer a handful of skincare and shower products so I would definitely suggest checking them out next time you are in Boots or perusing Amazon online.

Bourjois 1 Seconde Volume Mascara

Bourjois 1 seconde volume mascara, £9.99
available from mid May 2014

Next month Bourjois have an exciting new launch that promises to give your lashes impeccable volume from all angles and get them ready to flutter with up to 16 hours hold. The new 1 seconde volume mascara, available in intense black and intense black waterproof, boasts a smart new brush inspired by professional round hairbrushes to comb through each lash and create instant volume. The clever brush has alternate straight bristles and small wraparound spheres that envelopes the whole lash to coat and define without causing any clumping and giving you a super-glamorous flutter.

I firstly love the packaging of these new mascaras from Bourjois with the striking shiny chrome tube with the sorbet-coloured branding keeping it sweet and elegant - an image that Bourjois delivers so well with their beauty products. The formula is rich and intense and the brush really grabs each lash and coats them from root to tip. After one coat it gave me lovely length and separation for quite a subtle, light look but after a few more coats the volume can be built up giving you an intense, false lash effect, clump-free and easily removed also! Definitely a good little mascara to check out if you are after a new addition to your makeup bag with a purse-friendly price point to boot!

Will you be trying the 1 seconde volume mascara when it is released next month?
