Topshop Ceramic Lip Liner and Naturist Lipstick

With Kylie Jenner's lips being the hottest beauty trend of the moment and her go-to lip products being  the hot topic on everyone's lips, it was only going to be a matter of time before I added a few similar lipsticks and liners to my collection to try and emulate that famous pout. Rumour has it that Kylie is a fan of MAC's lip liners in Soar and Spice layered with a slick of MAC's Faux or Brave lipstick, so whilst I am still on the waiting list to pick up Soar liner online I thought I would try and find some more accessible alternatives. I headed to Topshop and picked up a new lip combination comprising of Ceramic lip liner (£5) and Naturist lipstick (£8).

Without a doubt Kylie's trademark pout is definitely more pinky-toned and matte than either of these lip products but I really love the finished look when used together and I have been welcoming the change from my favourite pinks and nude lipsticks which I find myself reaching for most days! Ceramic lip liner has an earthy, brown tone with a very smooth consistency which makes it ideal for lining the lips easily or even filling your whole lip area in for a matte, neutral finish. Naturist lipstick was a real gem to find and is slightly more pink toned than Ceramic and has a satin texture and finish on the lips. It is so pretty and a nice transitional lip product if you want to make the move into wearing a darker lip colour but feel a bit hesitate to whip out the bold browns right away!

What do you think of these two new lip products from Topshop?

With only two weeks to go until the big day, thoughts are turning to those last minute shopping trips and final Christmas presents to pick up for your nearest and dearest. Whenever I am struggling to think of something special to buy then I know that a luxury scented candle is always a great option and Jo Malone have got Christmas wrapped up with their limited edition travel candle collection.

This limited edition travel candle collection* is £62 and available from Jo Malone stores, counters and of course, online. Inside their trademark cream and black box, tied up with a festive, red silk ribbon, is a trio of their classic travel candles.  It is such a perfect way to sample three of their beautiful scented candles, either as a gift under the Christmas tree or maybe just a special treat for yourself. Firstly there is Pomegranate Noir which is a dark and enticing scent made up of ruby-rich pomegranate, raspberry and plum juices spiked with pink pepper and spicy woods. It is opulent and decadent and the perfect candle to light on Christmas eve whilst you snuggle up with a festive film and finish wrapping your final presents. The next candle from this limited edition collection is Pine and Eucalyptus which is Christmas in a candle! It brings all the breeziness of fresh pine and bracing Eucalyptus to your home and is crisp, clear and elegant. If your home is lacking that traditional festive scent of a real Christmas tree in the corner then this is the next best thing! Finally there is the Incense and Embers travel candle which has a smoky base note brightened with silver fir and white pepper. It is sensual, elegant and incredibly relaxing and has such a unique fragrance. It is very warming and comforting, much like a roaring fire in the corner or a spicy mug of mulled wine. It is the perfect addition to your home to add warmth and familiarity over the chilly months.

Are you wishing for any Jo Malone candles under the Christmas tree this year?

Bourjois Happy Nude Year Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick

If I had to compile a list of my favourite beauty picks from 2014 then, without a doubt, I would choose the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet range as some of my top lipstick products. Their consistency, staying-power, perfectly matte finish and selection of shades have won me over and the fact they are under a tenner as well makes them a fab addition to anyone's makeup collection.

Their texture is light and almost gel-like and glide onto the lips easily. The colour dries quickly after application to a flattering matte finish which seems to last hours upon hours without drying or becoming patchy. They are best applied little by little building up the colour rather than layering a large amount on at once. The sponge applicator is handy to really define the shape of your lips and is easy to use on the go to touch up your lipstick after eating or drinking. Happy Nude Year* is the most recent addition to the Rouge Edition Velvet range and is a pretty rose-pink shade, a little less brown and more nude than their earlier release - Nude-ist. I just adore this colour and is the perfect lipstick to pick when you want something natural yet not too nude to perk up your finished look. You can get your hands on Happy Nude Year and the rest of the Rouge Edition Velvet shades from Boots for £8.99. I would definitely also recommend checking out Pink Pong - another one of my personal favourites for a more a glamorous, pink lip!

A Metallic Merry Christmas

"Inspiration is all around you, and whatever inspires you can be found on ebay."

Following on from my first ebay-related post last month, where I shared with you my Autumn Outdoors collection, I am excited to bring you a rather festive collection which should help with adding a touch of Christmas sparkle to your home. Ebay's recently launched campaign, "Shop the World", is a great way to show that whatever inspires you can be found on ebay. Whether it is that new winter wardrobe, some Christmas gift ideas, home decor pieces or simply a technology upgrade, it can all be found online. And the pinterest-like collection boards are a great way to surf and share your favourite bits!

I love the idea of having a colour theme every year and this year I have fallen in love with the cool crispness of metallics. Golds and silvers are the epitome of Christmas (with a dash of red of course) so I have been cruising ebay to bring you my brand new December ebay collection - A Metallic Merry Christmas. Unique, individual and stylish Christmas decorations can be quite hard to come by but after a few searches on ebay I was faced with a whole new world of seasonal bunting, diamante stag heads and vintage baubles galore. I love scouring for something that is a little bit different that can't just be picked up off the high street and that is why ebay can really be the one-stop shop for inspirational purchases, especially in the run up to Christmas time! No one likes battling with the hoards of shoppers out on the street from now until Christmas eve so I much prefer to keep cosy inside, grab myself a cuppa and let my laptop do the hard work!

Oooh look who is in a magazine?! If you are a bride-to-be and looking for some wedding inspiration this month or maybe you are already married and just like to pour over the pretty dresses (yes, I still do this!) then I definitely recommend picking up a copy of this month's Perfect Wedding magazine and you may even recognise a certain couple from the real weddings' section.

I cannot believe our lovely little wedding day was nearly five months ago now but seeing our gorgeous photographs and special memories in print has brought all the happiness from the day flooding back and it feels like only yesterday we were saying our "I dos". I am so thrilled to have this magazine to cherish forever and I may have stocked up on a few couple for friends and family. Well, it is definitely something to show the grandchildren in years to come!

Let's Talk about a #SpotlessXmas

Being a beauty blogger has meant that over the past five years I have written about skincare more times than I can even begin to imagine. Over the years as my blog has grown, so has my enthusiasm and interest in skincare and I often touch on some of my favourite brands and products to help keep my skin as clear and blemish-free as possible. However I have never delved much deeper than my favourite moisturiser or toner and spoken about skin issues such as acne despite this being a very common problem with many girls and guys today. Fortunately I have never suffered from acne. Yes  sure, I have had those bad skin days, never-ending periods of time where my skin just wouldn't behave itself and those annoying pimples and spots would just not leave, but never to a severe scale like some of my friends and family have endured. I have seen first hand how upsetting and confidence-crushing acne and other skin conditions can be and a lot of that frustration can come from the myths and misconceptions surrounding acne and what can actually cause and remedy such skin conditions.

I am certainly no expert when it comes to acne, skincare problems and their solutions but I have gained a little bit of knowledge over the years from the wonderful world of blogging and wanted to share with you some of the facts, myths and tips about acne in a hope that this might help anyone out there suffering too. Acne is most prevalent amongst adolescents and young adults and is characterised by blackheads, whiteheads and pus-filled spots. It affects approximately 80% of people at some point between 11-30 years of age with 60% of those sufferers seeking treatment for their acne, either over the counter or via their GP. The cause of acne is down to the oil-producing glands being particularly sensitive to normal blood level of the testosterone hormone which causes the gland to produce an excess of oil. At the same time, the dead skin cells lining the pores are not shed properly so clog up the follicles. These two effects result in a build-up of oil producing those troublesome whiteheads and blackheads.

There will always be certain myths that surround spots and acne which makes it very difficult for the sufferer to work out what might be the cause and how can a breakout be avoided. For example some say that makeup can cause acne but there is no evidence that this is true. However it is of course advisable to avoid transferring the bacteria around your face by keeping your makeup brushes regularly clean and avoid touching or using your fingers when applying your makeup. Some people fear that acne is contagious but again you cannot catch or pass acne on to another person. Poor hygiene alone doesn't cause blemishes and although good hygiene can prevent outbreaks, you can have too much of a good thing. Too much scrubbing, exfoliating or harsh soaps can actually make your skin worse! Confusing huh?

With Christmas just around the corner I am sure you are keener than ever to ensure you have a clear, blemish-free festive season and get your skin perfect for that Christmas party. Therefore I would love to hear from you if you feel comfortable enough to share your own skin story or maybe some tips or advice you have learnt regarding acne and dealing with skin conditions. Please do share any thoughts you may have on the myths, misconceptions, causes and remedies surrounding acne and hopefully we can all look forward to a #SpotlessXmas. Leave me a message below or tweet me @pinkpixiedoll using the hashtag #SpotlessXmas so I can see your comments.
