Illamasqua SS12 - Human Fundamentalism

Tonight saw the grand unveiling of Illamasqua's SS12 collection - Human Fundamentalism. With every new launch from Illamasqua comes an air of mystery and uncertainty, their collections of like an enigma which begs to be deciphered. Human Fundamentalism is a chaos of colours and strives to break the mould of conformity. Illamasqua continue to push the message that beauty is who you are and not who you're told to be and this new collection highlights this idea more than ever as it rises above mainstream limitations...hello teal lipstick!

The founding point of this new collection is the fundamental human desire to express your inner self on the outside. It embraces the idea that we all beautiful and harbouring the same aesthetic aspiration, regardless of our background, religion or race. Human Fundamentalism is a medley of unpredictable colours and contrasting textures. It propels and challenges us in an exciting and explosive way, combining tribal connotations with modern day nuances of street cultures and global trends. Some people look at a makeup range and focus purely on the products on offer, whereas I relish the narrative that Illamasqua furnish their collections with - it brings the whole range to life and almost convinces me that my alter ego needs a teal lipstick! Another thread that is explored in this collection is the idea of inverted beauty. The classic red lip and black flicked liner combo is admired and revered as the ultimate image of beauty - but why accept this, and what happens if we switch the colours. The black liner swiftly becomes Scribe, a pure white precision ink and the quintessential red lipstick morphs into Apocalips - a daring petroleum-teal lipstick.

Human Fundamentalism is comprised of a range of new products, as well as re-promoting some of their classic shades which fitted admirably into the collection. I sense the two new fundamental palettes pictured above, sporting a quad of natural or experimental colours, will appeal to many - they are a playground for your self-expression, spiralling you to new realms of unconformity. I love the neutral palette especially with its combination of stark and lighter shades to perfectly contour and highlight.
